And it set the tone for a whole subgenre of scary movies in which civilized folk venture into forested territory and become prey for violent backwoods dwellers. Based on the acclaimed novel by James Dickey, who also scripted (with uncredited alterations by Boorman), it's also arguably the best movie Burt Reynolds ever starred in. He plays one of four friends who take a canoe trip down a remote Georgia river, and are ambushed by gun-toting locals who turn their vacation into a fight for survival. Featuring the famous "dueling banjos" scene, and an equally infamous assault that changed the meaning of "squeal like a pig" forever, DELIVERANCE co-stars Jon Voight and, in their first big-screen turns, Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty. Vilmos Zsigmond's lushly eerie cinematography is especially powerful on the big screen, so don't miss this chance to experience it!
