Did you know the Carnival we know today, widely celebrated in New Orleans and around the world, started during the Middle Ages in Italy? There, as in many other places, it is still a most beloved celebration of feasting and indulgence and that is where the inspiration for this cooking demo and dinner with Chef Joe Merchanthouse has formed its roots. Joe has taken his love of Mardi Gras and fused it into a menu, with his life experience of having lived and cooked in Italy just down the road from the Italian Rivera City of Viareggio, where a massive "Carinevale" parade and celebration takes place every year. Chef Joe Merchanthouse will be hosting a cooking demo and dinner on Fat Tuesday February 25th at 7pm. The continuation of an ongoing collaborative series of demo/dinners between him and Logan Street Market featuring food found and available at the markets myriad of vendors. I am a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, a trained chocolatier, and a restaurant chef. I have over 25 years experience in the industry, including living and working in Tuscany, Italy for 3 years. I believe in a rich and creative food for the spirit, as well as the body. My cuisine focuses on fresh and seasonal ingredients, executed with elevated and inspired techniques.I love the challenge of meeting new people and delivering food and service above and beyond their expectations, in new and different settings.
