Hand-Quilting Workshop: Introduction to Korean Pojagi Quilting - POST - Detroit

Hosted by POST + Elizabeth Royal (of Mend Detroit) Saturday, November 9th from 10am to 1pm$60, includes all materials Pojagi (which means "wrapping cloth") is a traditional Korean method of quilting that uses seams that trap the raw edges inside of the fabric. These quilts look especially beautiful when held up to the light and have been used as window coverings, table covers, wrappers, and room dividers. During this three hour make and take workshop, participants will learn the basics of Pojagi hand quilting.This workshop will cover basic pattern planning, piecing, seaming and finishing and uses materials and supplies sourced by Elizabeth directly from the Namdaemun Textile Market in Seoul (this is a rare workshop opportunity and may only be held again while supplies last!). Each student will take home a small pojagi work in progress, extra Remi fabric, linen thread, a needle, and a wood and metal Hera. Although not required, students will benefit from bringing with them: a straight edge tool (such as a ruler or sewing gauge), a rotary cutter and cutting mat. About the instructor:Elizabeth Royal is a maker, mender, and photographer. She lives in a 1920's fixer upper in Detroit with her two dogs, two cats, and husband. During the day she's an instructional designer but after work you can find her tackling projects in her studio - photography, Kintsugi, and visible mending.
