Visiting Artist Talk and Workshop: Slow Fashion + Sustainability - POST - Detroit

Hosted by POST + Laura Castro (of LA COSMO) and Lucia Londoño (of Ata Felting Design) Wednesday, October 30th from 6pm to 9pm$25, includes Artist Talk, Trunk Show + Workshop Join us as we celebrate and welcome Visiting Columbian Artists, Laura Castro and Lucia Londoño for an evening of Women-Owned Sustainability + Slow Fashion. There will be a short presentation, introducing Laura, fashion designer and founder of LA COSMO, Columbia's first dedicated space for 100% sustainable, responsible, fair trade and environmentally friendly goods and consumption. Laura will be showcasing products from a selection of the Columbian artists she represents in her space in Bogota. One of those artists is Lucia Londoño, founder of Ata Felting Design, an artisanal felting brand that explores traditional techniques and materials with contemporary results. After the talk and meet + greet there will be a hands-on felting activity where each attendee will get to make a small finished project to take home! Wine and refreshments will be served. Come by and enjoy a curated selection of Columbian hand-made goods and music. Get to meet two incredible women while they make their way across the country sharing their skills and passions. About the artists: Laura Castro is a fashion designer who founded LA COSMO in 2018 where she is currently working with 18 Colombian brands from various regions. Each brand is unique but with a shared focus on responsible production processes. LA COSMO is a multi-use space where screenings, workshops, and conversations take place revolving around the philosophy of sustainability and slow fashion. This is how she came to meet Lucia Londoño, a wet and dry felt instructor, who with her brand Ata Felting, does a very important job in Colombian communities. Maria Lucia Londoño studied Design, specializing in Textile Design in Bogotá, Colombia and received her Master’s Degree in Textile Design Innovation in Nottingham, UK. Her brand, Ata Felting Design in which she explores possibilities of artisanal felting, Colombian wool and natural dyes. Her main goal is to introduce and attract a wider audience to the art of felting. She has programmed a series of felting workshops to do just that. She also collaborates with important Colombian designers such as Olga Piedrahita and Nicolares Rivero, among others.
